Problem

As cities expand, the loss of natural habitats is causing a decline in insect populations. This is a serious threat to our ecosystems and food security, as pollinators are vital for producing the crops we rely on. Without them, our world would be drastically changed.

Brief

Our brief required me to identify a specific problem and develop a product to address it. Then tasked with modeling the product in Blender and ensuring it featured a functional user interface.

FERA is a modular insect hotel that restores urban habitats while collecting vital research data. Equipped with integrated sensors and cameras, it tracks nesting activity and shares findings through an open-access platform. By engaging urban communities in biodiversity, FERA tackles insect decline to create greener, more sustainable cities.

The chosen font is Inter. Its a clean variable font.

Logo

Apis Malifera is the scientific name for a bee. Still drawing inspiration from the scientific name, i shortened it to Fera. for a short more memorable name.

The logo is chosen as a symbol for the hotel with the hexagon. The bee also referencing the origin of the name

Main Hotel

The FERA insect hotel is a modular, eco-friendly habitat crafted to support a variety of insect species. Acting as the central hub, FERA connects and manages each extension.

Bee Extention

FERA offers specialised single-extension options tailored to different insect species. The Bee Extension is specifically designed to support solitary bees, providing an ideal nesting area with carefully sized holes and space. This extension ensures a safe, comfortable environment for bees to nest and rest, promoting their well being and encouraging pollination in the surrounding area.

Flower Extention

This extension allows users to plant flowers in the main compartment, adding a touch of beauty to their space while also supporting pollinators. The wooden panel includes carefully designed holes, creating an inviting habitat for soil-dwelling insects.
